About the client

Our customer is an engineer from Germany. His company is a manufacturer of medical devices certified with its own development and production. Although heat is effective in treating insect bites, it's not enough. A smart insect bite healer must be available. With this incentive, their 4 founders came up with this unique medical product. After comparing many mold suppliers overseas, they finally chose us to custom plastic parts manufacturing for their Smart Insect Bite Healer because of our well- experienced service and owning world-class equipment.

About the product

This product is called smart insect bite healer. It is a medical product that relieves itching and pain caused by insect bites. Itchy bites can be relieved quickly and easily with heat treatment. We made six parts for our customer's product. The cover, the counterpart and the holder variant used PC material. The plate, the holder half and holder full were made from ABS + PC materials. All of them need both the polished and textured pattern.

Plastic Injection Molding

We made three plastic injection molds for this project, inclusive of lid, counterpart, and three different holders.

These parts are quite small items with high precision. They looks very simple-structured but they require a perfect assembly with each other. And our client need a beautiful texture surface for these parts. And some surface need mirror polished.

So during molding process, we use our Charmilles EDM machine to do EDM machining. Charmilles is a very famous brand in Switzerland. It is good at:

2.Beautiful and uniform texture surface

3.Mirror polished surface, no need extra polishing in later process

Design For Manufacturing Review

Our engineers prepared a detailed DFM report for this intelligent insect bite healer to verify with the customer. This includes the product's draft angle, gate location, and parting line. As for the product structure, Our engineers with rich experience will provide solutions to solve the problem. Once the DFM report was confirmed by our customer, we began mold design, precision mold build and high-quality plastic injection molding as well as surface finish.

Structure Evaluation

1. For the counterpart, the part blue surface do texture VDI 24, so suggest to make more than 5°draft angle to the pointed green surface along the slider direction.

2. For the cover, the pointed green surface have no draft angle, suggest to reduce some material to make 0.5°draft angle.

3. For the plate, the pointed green surface have no draft angle, suggest to reduce 0.1mm per side to make draft angle.

4. For the holder half, this position is difficult to do parting line, suggest to remove the red radius.

Final Mold Design

The final mold assembly was a carefully orchestrated collection of hundreds of components. All of them were interconnected with coolant circuits as well as gates and runners for melting plastic.
