Custom Insert Molding Service

Need overmolded parts that are truly custom? You've come to the right place. Alpine Mold with 22 years of insert molding manufacturing experience specializes in delivering high-quality, on-demand insert molding services for both prototypes and production parts. We proudly serve various industries such as automotive, electronics, medical, household, agriculture, gardening, and more.

Advantages of Insert Molding

1. Improve reliability: Metal mold inserts ensure the functionality of threads and reduce wear and tear over the part's lifespan.

2. Reduce costs: While insert molding costs more than standard injection molding, the expenses are usually offset by eliminating the need for post-assembly.

3. Decrease part size and weight: Plastic parts with metal inserts are generally lighter than all-metal parts.

4. Enhance part strength: The "one-shot" process of insert molding can produce stronger parts compared to overmolding and other processes.

5. Eliminate assembly: You can produce insert molded parts in one step without the need for subsequent assembly.

6. Improve design flexibility: It allows for greater design flexibility by enabling the integration of multiple materials and components into a single part.

Materials Used For Insert Molding

Insert molding is a manufacturing process that involves combining plastic and metal parts to create components. Here are some common materials used for insert molding:

 thermoplastics:

Polypropylene (PP)

Polyethylene (PE)

Polycarbonate (PC)

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)

Polyamide (Nylon)

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET),etc.

metals:

Stainless steel

Brass

Aluminum

Copper

Titanium,,etc.

Our Insert Molding Process

1. Design and preparation

We collaborate with our clients to understand their requirements and design the mold for the insert molding process.

2. Insert placement

Metal or other inserts are carefully positioned within the mold to ensure proper alignment and functionality in the final product.

3. Mold preparation

The mold is prepared by securely holding the inserts in place, ensuring they remain in their designated positions during the molding process

4. Plastic injection

Molten plastic material is injected into the mold cavity under high pressure. The plastic flows around the inserts, encapsulating them and forming the desired shape of the component.

5. Cooling and solidification

The mold is cooled to allow the plastic to solidify and take on the shape of the mold cavity. This ensures a strong bond between the plastic and the inserts.

6. Mold open and part ejection

Once the plastic has solidified, the mold is opened, and the insert-molded part is ejected from the mold. Any excess plastic or flash is trimmed or removed as needed.

7. Quality inspection

The insert-molded parts undergo a thorough inspection to ensure they meet the required specifications and quality standards. This may include dimensional checks, visual inspection, and functional testing.

8.Secondly Operations

Additional steps such as surface finishing, painting, or assembly may be performed to further enhance the appearance and functionality of the insert-molded parts.
